PLP Architecture is proud to announce its participation in the launch of the Build Ahead UK coalition, a new partnership led by Xynteo alongside industry leaders such as Santander UK and Derwent. This pioneering initiative aims to create the UK’s first truly zero-carbon buildings while shaping the future of sustainable construction.

The coalition focuses on delivering holistically sustainable solutions that prioritise reducing embodied and operational carbon, embracing innovative materials, and advancing future-focused design strategies. It builds on the success of Build Ahead India, a similar initiative launched in 2022, extending the vision of low-carbon transformation to the UK’s built environment.

The coalition has four key objectives:

  1. Source, facilitate, and enable testing and uptake of innovative materials and technology to reduce embodied and operational carbon in tandem
  2. Engage with senior leaders from local and national government as a forward-leaning unique partnership to inform key regulation and policies on embodied carbon, retrofit vs. redevelopment, and others
  3. Bring together pockets of excellence across the value chain from emerging clean-materials to future-focused design and development
  4. Showcase the art of the possible by delivering multiple pilot projects, culminating in a flagship project in London, and create commercial opportunity for partners

This partnership reflects PLP Architecture’s commitment to designing with people, planet, and technology at the forefront. As the UK accelerates housing development and decarbonisation goals, PLP is eager to lead the charge in creating a resilient, future-ready built environment.

The Build Ahead UK launch event brought together leaders from across the construction, finance, and policy sectors at the White Chapel Building in London, marking the start of a transformative collaboration for the industry.

Speaking at the launch, Lee Polisano, Founder of PLP Architecture, highlighted the urgent need for accurate data, integrated design tools, and system-wide collaboration to upgrade the UK’s ageing building stock:

“PLP Architecture has designed some of the world’s most innovative and sustainable buildings. We are keen to share our expertise through Build Ahead UK to foster progress across the sector. This coalition offers an incredible opportunity to inspire meaningful change and deliver buildings that meet the needs of our era.”
