About

Located within Imperial College London’s White City Campus, the Translation & Innovation Hub is an integrated research and enterprise building designed to support the commercialisation of science and technology. Developed as part of the wider Imperial West masterplan, the project brings together laboratories, incubator and accelerator space, and flexible office accommodation within a highly visible new building at the heart of London’s emerging innovation district.

The building provides bespoke accommodation for start-up companies emerging from Imperial’s research activity, alongside workspace for commercial tenants and partner organisations. Designed to support a wide range of scientific and technical uses, its flexible planning allows the relationship between research space and office accommodation to adapt over time in response to changing demands and patterns of innovation.

Organised into two wings of seven and twelve storeys, the building sits beside the Westway and acts as both a gateway and a buffer to the wider campus. A central atrium and open internal environments create visibility and connection across the building, while its position within White City helps strengthen links between academic research, business and the surrounding city.

The result is a workplace and research environment designed to support discovery, entrepreneurship and collaboration within one of London’s most important new science and technology quarters.

The façade combines glass, terracotta and folded metal panels to create a layered architectural expression with depth, rhythm and environmental performance. This gives the building a strong presence within White City while reinforcing its role as a visible part of London’s emerging innovation district.

“Imperial West’s Research and Translation Hub provides the physical environment to enable world-class research and knowledge transfer at scale – driving innovation and growth”

A growing innovation district

The Translation & Innovation Hub forms part of Imperial College London’s wider White City masterplan, a long-term vision to create a new district for science, enterprise and discovery in west London. Together with other campus buildings, it helps support an ecosystem where research, business and innovation can grow side by side.

Designed for interaction

The atrium creates a shared internal environment that encourages visibility, movement and everyday exchange between different users of the building. By connecting research, enterprise and communal space, it helps support a more collaborative culture.

A building designed to bring research and enterprise together, supporting the translation of ideas into real-world innovation. Flexible workspace, laboratories and shared environments are combined to support collaboration and growth over time.
