About

Midori Ainoura is an industry-leading innovator in architecture, placemaking and next-generation urban strategy. As a Design Partner at PLP Architecture and a founding partner of PLP Labs, she leads the practice’s work in Japan while shaping major projects across Europe, the Middle East and Asia. Her work advances life-centric cities through sustainable master planning and contextual, research-driven design to enhance human and environmental wellbeing.

In Japan, Midori leads the Tokyo Cross Park Vision, a 1.1 million m² masterplan in the heart of Tokyo positioned as a strategic urban connector between the capital’s financial CBD, government institutions and cultural districts. The project introduces a continuous green landscape and next-generation digital infrastructure powered by IOWN technologies. She is also leading several high-profile residential, commercial and mixed-use developments across Japan.

In London, Midori leads PLP’s masterplan for Bankside Yards, a 1.4 million sq ft mixed-use development next to Tate Modern comprising residential, hospitality and office towers. Within the scheme she led Arbor, a next-generation workplace, the Mandarin Oriental Hotel on the South Bank, and Opus, which upon completion will be the tallest residential tower in Prime Central London. Her UK portfolio also includes the Westferry Printworks Masterplan in Tower Hamlets, the Salesforce Tower and One Bishopsgate Plaza.

In Europe, Midori led the design of The Edge, Deloitte’s headquarters in Amsterdam, widely described by Bloomberg as “the smartest building in the world” and holder of the highest BREEAM sustainability score awarded at the time.
