Karl Sharro is an experienced urban designer and architectural writer known for shaping complex, culturally grounded developments.As a Partner at PLP Architecture, he leads the practice’s work in the Middle East and India and leads PLP’s strategic consultancy work in KSA. His work spans large‑scale master planning, luxury residential and hospitality, mixed-use and office projects across the Middle East, North Africa, India, Europe and the UK.
In Saudi Arabia, Karl is leading a number of high-profile developments ranging from high-rise luxury residential to urban masterplans, including Rikaz Towers, combining residential, hospitality, office and retail uses into a new urban destination. In Riyadh, he led the design of Luxury Landmark, a high‑profile three‑tower development integrating homes, hotels, offices and retail, and Interlace Towers, a pair of super‑luxury mixed‑use buildings. In India, Karl is delivering over ten million square feet of mixed‑use development at Aerocity, as well as a 30-acre high-end residential development in Bangalore. He also led the Krea University Masterplan, a 220‑acre campus integrating academic, residential and recreational uses into a cohesive educational environment. In Kuwait, he was the senior designer for Assima, a major mixed‑use development including a five‑star JW Marriott hotel. Karl is also leading several high-profile, large‑scale mixed‑use and waterfront projects in Saudi Arabia, working with government and private clients on sensitive sites.
Karl has led a number of major projects in London, including our recent work on the Whitechapel Healthcare and Research Campus, a large‑scale, mixed‑use life sciences, healthcare and residential development within the Barts Life Sciences Cluster. He was also responsible for the design of One Embassy Gardens, headquarters to Penguin Random House, facing the United States Embassy in Nine Elms.
