The Blueprint Awards 2015 for Architecture and Design have shortlisted The Edge for the ‘Best Sustainable Design Project or Product’ category.
The Edge has attracted public attention for the unique way in which the building responds to both its external and internal environments. Externally, the benefits of natural light are maximised, with a glass façade allowing natural daylight into office space, whilst the south façade houses solar panels to produce energy and electricity for the building. Additionally rainwater is collected and recycled for irrigation and aquifer thermal energy storage controls the temperature of the building. Internally, employees can use their smartphones to adjust lighting and room temperature, as well as monitor their energy consumption allowing them to alter their working patterns to be more sustainable. The Edge combines outstanding architecture with exceptional standards of sustainability to create a building which is both energy and work efficient.
The winner will be announced at the awards ceremony in London on 22nd October 2015.
