PLP Architecture was appointed by Scott Wilson – the Over Station Development (OSD) Framework Design Consultant – as lead consultant to develop an existing scheme for the East Ticket Hall Over Station Development (OSD) at Farringdon Crossrail Station to a coordinated Stage D level, based on which a planning application can be submitted. The central London Farringdon Station lies just north of the City of London.
The site is bounded by three Conservation Areas: to the west, the Smithfield Conservation Area; to the east, the Charterhouse Square Conservation Area; and to the north, Charterhouse Square Conservation Area. The external treatment of the building is sympathetic to its context and reflects the colour palette of the architecture in the area. The vertical terracotta framing elements of the building will feature colour on one side of the vertical fins. This will provide a different reading to each elevation dependent on the direction from which the elevation is viewed.
In line with the requirements for such projects, the current scheme achieved an “Excellent” rating in a BREEAM pre-assessment exercise.
